Unknown Flea + Tick Collar Also Applied History: Caller found this kitten less than 8 wks old about 0.5# and covered in fleas on his doorstep yesterday afternoon. The kitten had a cut above her eye, the eye was mattered shut, and she was weak. He bathed her with a people shampoo and then had to leave for about 1 hr. He came home and found that his girlfriend had "doused" the kitten with the flea spray for cats/kittens and he did not realize this and had applied a flea collar to the kitten. This morning when he woke up the kitten was weak/lethargic, vomiting, diarrhea, eye mattered shut still, and looking like she was going to die. Caller is asking what to do? NOTE: His girlfriend did not read the directions before applying the spray to the kitten. Assessment: Discussed with the caller the 2 products contain an OP and discussed with the caller the symptoms of SLUDGE. Explained to the caller that due to the kitten's stray unknown background, heavy flea infestation, eye matted shut, weakness, etc the kitten was more than likely sick before she was sprayed with the product and the flea collar applied. The spray applied is not labeled for use on kittens less than 12 wks of age. Rec. to bathe the kitten again with a hand dishwashing liquid with no "oxy" or bleach in it and rinse well with water. Recommend to give the kitten diluted gatorade or powerade in via an eye dropper. Do not give too much. Recommend there is not anything more for you to do for the kitten at home. Recommend to take the kitten to your Veterinarian for treatment as soon as possible. CB prn. Owner called back and stated he gave the kitten some diluted powerade to drink. She did drink the liquid. He did give her another bath as instructed with the hand dish washing liquid as directed, but when he was bathing her the kitten vomited up blood, is very weak and "looks like she is going to die." He is going to take her to his local Vet. 08/01/07 Follow-up The cat started to vomit blood then died shortly after talking to (name). He did not have a chance to get it to the vet. The cat was buried that same day.
