On 13 Jun 2023, an animal owner contacted Elanco and incidentally mentioned an adverse event with using Advantage II in a cat and reported the following: On an unknown date, a cat was administered one tube of Advantage II Large Cat (imidacloprid/pyriproxyfen), topically by the animal owner for parasite control. The product was used correctly. It is unknown if any concomitant products were administered. It is reported that the product was used monthly until an unknown date in 2023.

On an unknown date, the 16 year old, approximately 7.3kg, male cat, of an unknown reproductive status and unknown breed, in unknown condition, with unknown concomitant medical conditions, died at home of old age. The owner stated that she thinks the cat was maybe in kidney failure based of an internet search. No diagnosis was made by a veterinarian. The owner stated that towards the end of the cat's life, he acted like he was paralyzed.
