(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On an unspecified date post application, in approximately 2019, the canine intermittently scratched at the collar. On an unspecified date post onset, in approximately 2019, the canine died. It was unknown if a necropsy examination was performed. No further information is expected. This case is closed.
Death
O - Unclassifiable/unassessable Scratching at the collar is unspecific and may have numerous causes. May be related to application site pruritus or just be linked to an unusual feeleing due to wearing a collar. Death is not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause serious signs either. An overdose of 5 collars around the neck was investigated in adult cats and dogs for an 8 months period and in 10 week old kittens and 7 week old puppies for a 6 months period without causing serious signs. This is supported by the extremely low systemic exposure with imidacloprid and flumethrin, particularly during the first week after application and also thereafter. Other unrelated causes must be considered. Limited information (e.g. animal details, health status, medical history, time to onset and necropsy report) are unknown. Furthermore the intent of the call was to inquire about product use in general and not to report this event. Overall, a product relation is unassessable.
