On an unknown date in 2015, a 9 year old, female, American Shorthair feline, of unknown weight and condition, with concomitant medical conditions of fleas, had one Seresto Cat (Flumethrin-Imidacloprid) collar placed around the neck by the owner.

On 26-Nov-2015, the feline exhibited respiratory distress. The feline was examined by a veterinarian; radiographs showed a pneumothorax. No treatments were provided and the feline died; no necropsy was performed.

O - Unclassifiable/unassessable Reported respiratory distress, diagnosed pneumothorax and fatal outcome of death are not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with product¿¿¿¿¿¿s pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause serious signs either. An overdose of 5 collars around the neck was investigated in adult cats and dogs for an 8 months period and in 10 week old kittens and 7 week old puppies for a 6 months period without causing serious signs. This is supported by the extremely low systemic exposure with imidacloprid and flumethrin, particularly during the first week after application and thereafter. Time to onset is unknown. Although no necropsy performed, product involvement is not likely, however due to limited information case is considered unassessable.
