Shortly after the product was applied on September 28, 2019, the cat developed hypersalivation and abnormal breathing. The owner then bathed the cat with Dawn dish soap. Soon after, the cat developed pale mucous membrane color. Thirty minutes later, the cat passed away. That afternoon, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated that a taste reaction to the scent or taste of the agent, in some individuals may be seen. The APSS veterinarian also stated that severe flea anemia may trigger a fatal response if the cat was stressed by the spray, and that there may be some risk for an asthmatic reaction if inhaled. The APSS veterinarian recommended a necropsy, to have the veterinarian call for information, and to call back with questions.
