On July 15, 2019, the owner inappropriately applied about 0.75 mL of the product tube to each of the two dogs as prevention. (Not full dose). It is unknown if veterinarian was consulted before use on the geriatric dog.

On July 16, 2019, the dog developed lethargy. On July 17, 2019, the dog had an isolated event of vomiting. A couple of hours later, the dog's lethargy became moderate. The owner stated that she took the dog for a walk and halfway through, the dog stopped and laid down. The owner had to carry him home. Soon after, the dog passed away. On July 22, 2019, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated that and that systemic signs or death would not be expected. The APSS assistant recommended the owner call back with questions.

The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was not considered to be related to causing the clinical situation At the time of this report, a necropsy is not pending. A full dose was not applied. It is unknown if the owner consulted with a veterinarian before use on the geriatric dog.
