When the owner bathed the cat with the product on October 12, 2018, the owner noticed the cat had developed symptoms. The owner also noticed blood in the bath water but thinks it's possible it could have been from flea poop. Soon after, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated that any dermally applied products can cause skin irritation and/or hypersensitivity reaction and that topically applied pyrethrins/pyrethroids can cause tingling of the skin as well. The APSS veterinarian also stated that systemic signs are not expected as long as the product was used according to label. The APSS assistant recommended the owner provide flea treatment (call regular veterinarian to see if there is another flea treatment option), take the animal to a veterinarian (if there are open sores, really inflamed skin, or pet is anemic), have the veterinarian call for information, and to call back with questions.
