(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On December 30, 2017 the dog developed pruritus. On January 12, 2018 the owner noticed that the dog had developed yellow scabs that flaked off when brushing. The owner then bathed the dog and was able to get the scabs out of the dog's fur. Soon after, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated that shampoos are rinsed off and that on going signs are not expected. The APSS veterinarian also stated that if the dog had fleas, and the only flea treatment was a shampoo, that the dog most likely still has fleas. The APSS veterinarian further stated that the dog could potentially have flea dermatitis. Finally, the APSS veterinarian stated that although pruritus could be seen after a bath, it should not continue for two weeks, especially if the shampoo was rinsed well. The APSS assistant recommended the owner take the dog to a veterinarian (to be checked and to discuss a flea control program) and have the veterinarian call for information.
Minor
Signs were expected to be mild and self-limiting.
