On May 22, 2018, 24 hours after the home had been treated with the product, the owner returned home with her kitten. Later in the evening, the kitten developed lethargy and hind limb weakness. A few hours later, the owner took the kitten to the emergency veterinarian who suspected a permethrin exposure. On May 27, 2018 the kitten passed away. On May 31, 2018 the pest control operator (PCO) contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated that once the product is dried, minimal signs are expected. The APSS technician recommended that PCO call the animal owner to provide the case and callback numbers so the animal owner could call the APSS directly with questions.
