On an unknown date in 2016, a 10 year old, 25 pound, neutered, male, Schnauzer (Miniature) canine, in unknown condition, with a concomitant medical condition of diabetes, had 1 Seresto Large Dog (Flumethrin-Imidacloprid) collar placed around the neck by the owner.

On an unknown date post application in Aug2016, the canine died. No known necropsy was performed. Due to the sensitive nature of the communication, specific relevant event details were not obtained, nor will such be sought. The reason for the initial communication was to discuss the expiration date of the product and not to report the death in this event. No more information is expected and this case is closed.

N - Unlikely Death is not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with product's pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause serious signs either. An overdose of 5 collars around the neck was investigated in adult dogs for an 8 months period without causing serious signs. No signs of anaphylaxis reported which would have occurred in close proximity to the collar application. Dog involved in this case was geriatric with a concomitant medical condition of diabetes. Moreover, the reason for the initial phone call was to discuss expiration date of the product and not to report the death in this event. Even though some information is not available (e.g. time to onset, health status and necropsy report), considering known product profile a product relation is unlikely.
