On the evening of May 14, 2017 the dog had an isolated event of diarrhea. The following morning on May 15, 2017 the dog had an isolated event of vomiting and developed lethargy. Later that afternoon, the owner then contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS technician stated that tetrachlorvinphos is an organophosphate (OP) with a very wide margin of safety. The APSS technician further stated that many of the flea sprays contain high concentrations of isopropanol, which can be absorbed through the skin and that signs of alcohol toxicosis include lethargy. The APSS technician recommended the owner remove the collar (let it air out for 24 hours), monitor at home (for dermal hypersensitivity), and to call back with questions.
