On the morning of September 19, 2017 the cat developed symptoms. Later in the afternoon, the owner bathed the cat with pet shampoo and water. The owner then contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The owner stated that after the bath, the cat's tremors became more moderate. The APSS veterinarian stated that tremors and seizures are possible and that paresthesia may also occur. The APSS assistant recommended the owner take the cat to a veterinarian, have the veterinarian call for information, and to apply vitamin E (topically at the application site for paresthesia). The owner expressed financial concerns and the APSS veterinarian stated it was important to take the cat to the clinic and that there can be outpatient by mouth (PO) options if the cat's signs are mild.
