On December 1, 2016 the owner bathed the cat with dish soap and applied the spray to treat a condition. The owner lightly misted the cat and rubbed it in with her hands, then wiped the cat down with a towel. On July 1, 2017 the owner reapplied the spray to the cat to treat a condition.

Shortly after applying the spray on July 1, 2017 the cat became symptomatic. On October 19, 2017 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to report the death . The APSS assistant recommended that the owner call back with questions.
