(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On an unknown date in 2015, an approximately 9 year old, male, Shih Tzu canine, of unknown weight, reproductive status, and condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, had 1 Seresto Dog (unspecified) (Flumethrin-Imidacloprid) collar placed around the neck by the owner. On an unknown date post collar administration in 2015, the canine died after being run over by a car. It is unknown if any veterinary intervention or treatments were performed. No known necropsy was performed. Due to the sensitive nature of the communication, specific relevant event details were not obtained, nor will such be sought. The reason for the initial call was to discuss a flea issue with her current dog and not to report the death of the patient. No further information is expected. This case is closed.
Death
N - Unlikely Death is not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause serious signs either. Death in this case was clearly a consequence of car accident. Also, the reason for the initial call was to discuss a flea issue with her current dog and not to report the death of the patient. In case of suspected product involvement, signs would have been reported in close proximity and not a long time later (not less than one and a half year later). Though some inofrmation is missing (necropsy results, time to onset), considering product pharmacology, alternative causes reported and intent of call, product relation is deemed to be unlikely.
