According to the custom applicator, an application of Matador was made to a canola field for the control bertha armyworms on Saturday, August 12 The field is located on the east side of the lake and a 100 m buffer was incorporated into the spray pattern. The applicator stated that the plane did not spray over the lake but rather turned over it to go back to the field. The applicator has also indicated that the plane operated correctly with no leaks found by the operator. No rain occurred from the time of application to when the incident was reported (which is supported by weather station reports). The applicator shared that he was approached by the the person who voluntarily reported this incident on Monday, who shared that a number of dead water beetles and crayfish were observed on the beach of the campground on the lake. No dead fish or other wildlife were observed. We are told that the Manitoba Ministry of Sustainable Development arrived at the lake on Monday to collect water samples for analysis. Prairie Applicators is also planning on taking water samples. The applicator also shared that he spoke with the manager of the campground on Seech Lake about the reported incident. The applicator indicated that the campground manager relayed to him that he didn't believe that the number of dead water beetles/crayfish found was abnormal ("nothing out of the ordinary"). NOTE: this is the same incident as submission 2017-4565, a voluntary report, which was received by the PMRA on August 30, 2017, and has been posted to the website.
