(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On approximately 10-May-2017, an 8 year old, 40 pound, intact, female, Chowchow canine, in unknown condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, had 1 Seresto Large Dog (Flumethrin-Imidacloprid) collar placed around the neck by the animal owner. On approximately 03-Jul-2017, the dog exhibited anorexia, vomiting, and lethargy. The dog was examined by a veterinarian, treated with unspecified fluids, and started on unspecified medications. On 08-Jul-2017, the collar was removed. On 09-Jul-2017, the dog died. No known necropsy was performed. Limited information was obtained at the time of communication. Further attempts to gather additional information will not be made. No further information is expected; this case is closed.
Death
N - Unlikely Vomiting is unspecific and may have numerous other causes (e.g. gastrointestinal infection, dietary incompatibility) however mild gastrointestinal signs may occur shortly after product application. Here time to onset is long. No oral product exposure reported. Anorexia and lethargy are unspecific signs and may be associated with vomiting in this case. Death is not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause serious signs either. An overdose of 5 collars around the neck was investigated in adult cats and dogs for an 8 months period and in 10 week old kittens and 7 week old puppies for a 6 months period without causing serious signs. Other cause more likely. Time to onset long. Considering the known product profile sufficient information exists to conclude that the product did not cause the event and product involvement is unlikely.
