(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On an unspecified date in 2017, a cat with unknown signalment, in unknown condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, had 1 Seresto Cat collar (Flumethrin-Imidacloprid) placed around the neck by the animal owner. On an unspecified date, the cat was hit by a car and passed away.No necropsy was performed. Due to the sensitive nature of the communication, specific relevant event details were not obtained, nor will such be sought. The reason for the initial phone call was to discuss applying liquid topical to another pet using the Seresto collar and not to report the death in this event.
Death
N - Unlikely Death is not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause serious signs either. Product has wide margin of safety. In this case, death of cat was result of car accident. Moreover, the reason for the initial phone call was to discuss applying liquid topical to another pet using the Seresto collar and not to report the death in this event. In the end, even though some information is not provided (animal information, onset time and necropsy result), considering the known product profile and the identified alternative cause for the cat's death, sufficient information exists to conclude that the product did not cause the event. Hence, a product involvement is deemed to be unlikely.
