(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
Immediately post application the dog was rubbing on the floor (behavioral). The sign resolved after approximately 15 minutes. On an unspecified date in approximately 2012 the dog died. No necropsy was performed. No further information is expected. This case is closed. Due to the sensitive nature of the communication, specific relevant event details were not obtained, nor will such be sought. The reason for the initial call was to discuss the use of our product for an active flea infestation on another animal, and not to report the death of the dog.
Death
Reported behavioural sign of hiding is unspecific and may have various other causes. Time to onset and duration are short. Death is not expected after product application, as inconsistent with pharmaco-toxicological product profile. Product has wide margin of safety. Oral LD50 in rat 642 mg/kg BW. 20-fold overdosage tolerated by dogs without showing any side effect. In case of suspected product involvement event would have been reported in close proximity and not long time (almost 4 years) after. The reason for the initial call was to discuss the use of product for an active flea infestation on another animal and not to report the death of the patient. Even though some information is not available (animal details, medical history, time to onset for death and necropsy report), considering available information and serious outcome of the case a product relation is considered as unlikely.
