On January 9, 2016 the cat developed hypersalivation, so the owner bathed the cat (with cat shampoo), the hypersalivation ended shortly after. The owner then contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS technician stated a number of sprays contain isopropanol as a carrier and if animals are heavily saturated, there can be risks for alcohol intoxication. The APSS technician also stated if ingested, there can be signs of hypersalivation and nausea. The APSS technician recommended dilution (can offer 1 tablespoon (tbsp) of milk, canned food, or tuna), monitoring the cat at home for gastrointestinal (GI) signs (nausea and drooling; call back if signs recur), and dermatological signs (skin irritation or scratching, if seen, call back), and calling back with questions.
