On December 3, 2015 the cat developed symptoms, so the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS technician stated s-methoprene is an insect growth regulator (IGR) and primary concerns from topical administration are for mild dermal irritation and redness, usually from the carriers. The APSS technician also stated if ingested there could be hypersalivation and nausea. The owner stated the hyperactivity had become mild. The APSS technician recommended monitoring the cat at home for gastrointestinal (GI) signs, managing vomiting, monitoring for dermatological signs, bathing the cat (with liquid dish washing detergent (LDWD) if cat will not calm down or worsens), providing a taste treat, and calling back with questions.
