(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On August 21, 2016 the dog ingested the product, no further details were known. The dog became unresponsive and the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated methomyl is a carbamate that is rapidly absorbed after ingestion, but does not accumulate in the tissues. The APSS veterinarian also stated it does not "age" on the receptors like organophosphates (OP's) do, so signs are often short-lived. The APSS veterinarian additionally stated signs occur within minutes after ingestion. The APSS veterinarian finally stated if not a lethal exposure, signs are expected to resolve spontaneously due to the reversible nature of carbamate toxicity. The APSS technician recommended taking the dog to the veterinarian (provided contact information for a nearby emergency clinic) and having the veterinarian call for information.
Death
The owner stated the dog died on August 21, 2016 on the way to the emergency clinic. The owner declined continuing with the consultation with the APSS. The recommended necropsy was declined by the owner. Off label use of product, this should be store in an area inaccessible to pets.
