(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
An unspecified date following placement of the collar in 2015, the cat died due to cytauxzoon (abnormal test result). No known necropsy was performed. No more information is expected and the case is closed. Note: This case is closed. The intent of the call was discuss use of the product on other pets and not to report the death of the cat.
Death
In this case, no ticks seen on dog. However, even in case of tick attachment, these will be killed and fall off the host within 24 to 48 hours after infestation without having had a blood meal, as a rule. However, attachment of single ticks and even sucking of blood and thus transfer of tick borne diseases cannot be excluded while the collar is worn and simply reflects the labeled claim of efficacy that is not 100% against ticks especially when infestation pressure is high. Thus, infection with tick borne diseases despite wearing a collar can occur exceptionally and is consistent with the products claimed efficacy. This issue is addressed in the product information. Death is not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause serious signs either. Outcome was the consequence of cytauxzoon infection in this case. Moreover, the intent of initial call was to inquire about product use on other pets and not to report death of this cat. Considering all these aspects, even though time to onset is unknown, product relation is deemed to be unlikely.
