(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
Approximately 30 minutes post application, the cat hid. On approximately 13-Jan-2016, the cat stopped hiding and exhibited anorexia. The cat was not seen by a veterinarian and the signs continued On approximately 26-Jan-2016, the cat died. No known necropsy was performed. No further information is expected; this case is closed.
Death
Though hiding and anorexia may have various other causes, they may occur initially after collar administration. Time to onset is short, but further continuation of anorexia suggests other unrelated causes. Death is not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause death either. An overdose of 5 collars around the neck was investigated in adult cats and dogs for an 8 months period and in 10 week old kittens and 7 week old puppies for a 6 months period without causing serious sign. Animal involved in this case was geriatric, which may have further contributed to death of the animal. Moreover owner dose not believe involvement of the product as owner contacted Bayer Animal Health to inquire about a replacement collar and not to report the death of this animal. Time to onset is also not suggestive of product relation either. Finally, even though some information (e.g. necropsy results) missing, considering the most prominent sign death which characterizes this case, no plausible connection can be made to the product and a product relation is deemed to be unlikely.
