(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On approximately 23-Oct-2015 the cat had multiple seizures and died. It is unknown if a necropsy was performed. No further information is expected. Case is closed. Note - The caller contacted Bayer Animal Health to inquire about product use on other cats and not to report the death of this cat.
Death
The product is not anticipated to cause serious neurological disorders such as seizures after appropriate topical product administration as the controlled release mechanism assures release of only low doses of active ingredient at a time. Death is also not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Death might be consequence of seizures. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause the signs either. Merely gastrointestinal signs would be possible. Overdose of 5 collars around the neck of adult cats and dogs for an 8 months period and in 10 week old kittens and 7 week old puppies for a 6 months period did not cause the signs either. Other causes are more likely (e.g. idiopathic epilepsy). The caller contacted Bayer Animal Health to inquire about product use on other cats and not to report the death of this cat. Time to onset not consistent as well. Considering the product profile and intent of caller about not reporting serious event, even though it is unknown if necropsy was performed, a product involvement is deemed unlikely.
