(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On September 28, 2015 the cat developed lethargy. On September 29, 2015 the cat started hiding and developed a behavior change (cat seems a bit out of it; currently walking around owner). Later that day the cat developed hypersalivation and vocalization. Shortly after the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated products labeled for cats generally have low concentrations of pyrethroids and if product is groomed off and ingested, can see taste reaction (hypersalivation, nausea). The APSS veterinarian also stated many sprays contain significant percentage of isopropyl alcohol and with overuse alcohol toxicity may develop. The APSS veterinarian further stated sometimes can see cats acting strangely as the smell and feel of product can be uncomfortable, may see mild lethargy or hiding, but expect this to be mild and self limiting. The APSS veterinarian recommended providing the cat with a taste treat (if needed), monitoring the cat at home for central nervous system (CNS) signs, gastrointestinal (GI) signs, and dermatological signs, calling back (if signs do not steadily improve), taking the cat to the veterinarian (if signs do not improve), and calling back with questions.
Minor
Signs were expected to be mild and self-limiting.
