(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
1-42281075 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that his mother cat and her three kittens may have been exposed to an insecticidal spray containing the active ingredient tetrachlorvinphos. The reporter applied the product to his 2-year-old, female cat (Subform III #1) three days prior to initial contact with the registrant to treat an active flea infestation. At the time the product was applied this cat was nursing three one month old kittens. The product was not applied to the kittens but they may have been exposed to the product by contact with the mother. One day after the product was applied one of the one month old kittens (Subform III #2) died. Prior to death this kitten stopped eating and was crying. Two days after the product was applied another kitten died (Subform III #3) and at the time of the call the third kitten (Subform III #4) was weak and not eating. The reporter also indicated that the mother cat did not seem to be feeling well. The reporter had already bathed the mother cat. The reporter was advised that per package labeling the product should not be used on nursing animals. The reporter was further advised that there are numerous possible causes for sudden death in young unvaccinated kittens and a necropsy could help determine the cause for the death but the kittens had already been buried. Immediate veterinary care was recommended for the one remaining kitten but the reporter indicated that this was not possible due to limited finances. No additional information is available.
