On 10-Aug-2015, a 10 year old, 6.8 pound, neutered, female, Siamese crossbred feline, in good condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, was administered 1 tube of Advantage II Small Cat (Imidacloprid-Pyriproxyfen) topically by the owner.

Approximately 5 minutes following the application of product, the cat began vomiting, coughing, and developed labored breathing. On 13Aug2015, the cat presented to the veterinarian. The cat was placed on oxygen and died suddenly. No necropsy was performed. No more information is expected and the case is closed.

Vomiting is not anticipated with appropriate topical product use. Oral ingestion of product was not observed. Even with oral product exposure signs would not be expected, but rather salivation. Coughing and labored breathing are not anticipated after product application as signs are not in line with pharmaco toxicological product profile. In this case signs may be associated with vomiting. Time to onset for these signs is short though. Death not expected after product application, as inconsistent with pharmacotoxicological product profile. Product has wide margin of safety. Oral LD50 in rat 642 mg/kg BW. 20-fold overdosage tolerated by dogs without showing any side effect. Time to onset is long for death. Cat involved in this case was geriatric, which may have contributed to death of the animal. Finally, even though for especially for death no plausible connection can be made to the product, without necropsy a relation is deemed to be unassessable.
