Due to the sensitive nature of the communication, specific relevant details were not obtained nor will they be sought. On an unknown date in 2004, an 18 year old, neutered, female, Unknown Breed feline, in unknown condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, was administered 1 tube of Advantage (cat-unspecified) (Imidacloprid) topically by the owner.

On an unknown date post application, in Sep 2004, the cat died due to unknown causes. No necropsy was performed. The caller contacted Bayer Animal Health to inquire about using product on the new cats in the home. No more information is expected and the case is closed.

Death not expected after product application, as inconsistent with pharmaco-toxicological product profile. Product has wide margin of safety. Oral LD50 in rat 642 mg/kg BW. 24-fold overdosage tolerated by cats without showing any side effect. In case of suspected product involvement, adverse event would have been reported in close proximity and not long time after (11 years). Animal involved in this case was geriatric, which may have caused death. The caller contacted Bayer Animal Health to inquire about using product on the new cats in the home. Finally, even no necropsy was performed and some information is missing (e.g. exact time to onset), based on given information, a product relation is deemed to be unlikely.
