(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
1-40690876 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that her dog was exposed to a rodenticide containing the active ingredient diphacinone. The reporter indicated that she had a liter of eight 7-week-old mixed breed puppies and due to financial concerns none of the puppies had been vaccinated. The reporter stated that one of the puppies, who weighed 9 pounds, was known to have ingested an unknown amount of the bait earlier on the day of initial contact and at the time of the initial call this puppy was not eating and it was crying. The reporter was advised that the product is not expected to have an effect for 2-5 days after exposure. Immediate medical attention was recommended to determine an underlying cause and appropriate treatment for the dog. The reporter was further advised that if symptoms were from exposure to this product, the antidote, vitamin K1 could be given. On follow-up call, two days later, the sister of the pet owner indicated that the dog had passed away. She did not know if the dog had been seen by a veterinarian. No additional information is available.
