(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On January 13, 2015 the attending veterinarian contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) as the dog was dead on arrival to the clinic. The APSS veterinarian stated with a carbamate insecticide the risk is for muscarinic signs include the SLUD signs (excessive salivation, lacrimation, urination, defecation) as well as miosis, dyspnea, vomiting and bradycardia. The APSS veterinarian also stated dyspnea is the result of increased bronchial secretions, bronchoconstriction, and decreased contraction of the respiratory muscles. The APSS veterinarian also stated the nicotinic signs are muscle tremors, twitching, weakness and paresis progressing to paralysis. The APSS veterinarian also stated central nervous system (CNS) signs are hyperactivity, tremors and seizures. The APSS veterinarian further stated signs can develop within minutes, once developed signs generally resolve within 12 hours or less due to reversal of carbamate binding properties.
