On May 21, 2014 a couple hours after the product was applied, the owner noticed the dog had developed symptoms at the application site. The owner then contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated with chronic irritation and scratching, skin can develop hyperpigmentation and generally this requires a number of days to weeks. The APSS veterinarian also stated it is possible that there is excess dirt/dust adhering to treated area of skin. The APSS technician recommended the owner bathe the dog with liquid dish washing detergent, consult with their veterinarian regarding alternative flea/tick products as this dog may not be able to tolerate concentrated pyrethroids, monitor the dog at home, and call back with questions.
