(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
1-36321909 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that her two cats were exposed to an insecticidal product containing the active ingredient methoprene. The reporter applied the product to her 5-year-old, 6 pound, female Siamese cat and to her 4-year-old, female domestic shorthaired cat 10 days prior to initial contact with the registrant. Immediately after application both cats started to salivate. The reporter did not witness any ingestion of the product and did not believe that her cats could have licked the product. The reporter immediately bathed both of her cats and at the time of the call the pet owner reports that her domestic shorthaired cat is doing better but yesterday she had to bring her Siamese cat to the veterinarian where it was given intravenous fluids because it had not been eating and drinking. The reporter also states that both of her cats have lost their voices. The reporter was advised that the product has little to no toxicity in mammals but with ingestion of the product short-term drooling can occur because of the unpleasant taste. The reporter was further advised that there are numerous possible causes for anorexia and voice changes and continued veterinary care was recommended to determine an underlying cause and appropriate treatment. The reporter could not be reached on follow-up. No further information is available.
