On October 12, 2013 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that Methoprene is an insect growth regulator (IGR) with a wide margin of safety and that most ingestions will result in mild, self-limiting vomiting and diarrhea. The APSS veterinarian said that signs would be expected within 8 hours of exposure to the product and that clinical signs generally resolve within 24 hours. The APSS veterinarian recommended that the owner take the cat to the veterinarian for either diagnostics and treatment or for humane euthanasia and call back with questions.
