On 10-Jun-2013, a 16 year old, 7.50 pound, neutered, male, Domestic Shorthair feline, in good condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, was administered 1 tube of Advantage (non - US Registered Product) (Imidacloprid) once topically by the owner.

Approximately 4.5 hours later, the patient vomited twice and was straining to deficate. At the time of this communication, the clinical signs had not resolved. Further Info, June 17: cat was taken to veterinary clinic on June 16; had an abdominal mass that was suspected to be cancerous, had kidney insufficiency and high WBC count. Cat was euthanized.

Intended direct topical dermal exposure of the product to the cat. Digestive disorders, a palpable mass and renal disorders are unlikely product-related as inconsistent with the pharmacological and toxicological product profile. Product has wide margin of safety. Oral LD50 in rat 642 mg / kg BW. 24-fold overdosage tolerated by cats without showing any side effect. Owner choose for euthanasia of this geriatric cat due to medical condition the cat was in. Although short onset time, signs not expected and rather related to described underlying conditions and merely coincidental events. A relation to the product is therefore to be excluded.
