1-35260485 - The reporter, a pet owner indicated that his dog was exposed to an herbicide containing the active ingredients 2,4-D and Mecoprop-p. The reporter stated that one night prior to initial contact with the registrant his 9-year-old, 120 pound, German shepherd dog ingested the product. The reporter was advised that the product has a wide margin of safety but with ingestion transient gastrointestinal upset is possible. Veterinary care was recommended for any severe or persistent symptoms. On follow-up call, one day later, the reporter indicated that he noticed his dog was having shortness of breath he attempted transport to the veterinary clinic but the dog died in the car while enroute to the clinic. The reporter was advised that ingestion of the product would not be expected to cause shortness of breath and death but rarely when dogs vomit the vomit is aspirated and it may cause the described symptoms. The reporter was further advised that there are other possible causes for the described symptoms especially considering the advanced age of the dog. A necropsy could help determine the cause of death. No further information is available.
