On approximately 04-Jul-2013, a 14 year old, 8 pound, spayed, female, Shih Tzu canine, in good condition, with no known medical conditions, was administered 1 tube of Advantage II Small Dog (Imidacloprid-Pyriproxyfen) once topically by the owner.

On 04-Aug-2013 the dog died. It is unknown if a necropsy was performed. The owner contacted Bayer to see about a refund for the product, not to report the death of the dog. No further information is expected.

The information regarding the death of the dog was casually provided during an inquiry. Death occured 1 month after last product exposure. Nevertheless death is inconsistent with pharmaco-toxicological product profile and experience. Product has wide margin of safety. Oral LD50 in rat 642 mg/kg BW. 20-fold overdosage tolerated by dogs without showing any side effect. The cause of death of this dog is unknown according to case description. Unknown previous exposure. Finally, a product relation can be completely excluded.
