(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On September 19, 2013 the owner noticed that the dog had symptoms, he used an e-collar to prevent scratching. That same day the owner noticed that the dog had alopecia along his tail, at the base of his tail, and on the lateral aspects of his legs; the dog also had moist dermatitis. On September 21, 2013 and again at an unspecified time the owner gave the dog a bath with epsom salts and baby oil. On September 24, 2013 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that the dog's clinical signs were not consistent with a paresthesia reaction as they developed several days after the exposure to the product; it was more likely that the pet had dermatitis secondary to another cause (atopy or a flea allergy) or contact with one of the carriers in the product. The APSS veterinarian recommended that the owner take the dog to the veterinarian, give 75 milligrams (mg) of Diphenhydramine twice daily, bathe the dog with an antibacterial medicated shampoo already at home, and call back with questions.
