(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On June 3, 2013 the owner noticed that the cat was symptomatic and took the cat to her regular veterinarian, where her heart rate was recorded as normal at 170 beats per minute (bpm) and her respirations were recorded as high at 80.0 respirations per minute (rpm). A short time later the owner's regular veterinarian contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that appropriate use of the product would not be expected to cause clinical signs and that if the cat were saturated with the product there could be central nervous system (CNS) depression due to dermal absorption of the alcohol carrier. The APSS veterinarian also stated that although cats are sensitive to pyrethrins, the concentration in the product is so low that CNS signs would not be expected, even with a significant exposure. The APSS veterinarian said that ingestion could cause mild gastrointestinal (GI) upset. The APSS veterinarian recommended that the owner's regular veterinarian bathe the cat, give the cat 50 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) of Methocarbamol slowly intravenously, give the cat a low dose of Diazepam, and perform a diagnostic evaluation.
Moderate
The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was not considered to be related to causing the clinical situation.
