On May 8, 2013 the owner noticed that the dog was symptomatic. That evening the owner bathed the dog with dog shampoo; a short time later, the owner observed that the dog's behavior change was milder. On May 9, 2013 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that dermal hypersensitivity could be seen, along with associated behavior changes. The APSS veterinarian also stated that a paresthesia/tingling sensation could occur in some animals. The APSS assistant recommended that the owner bathe the dog with liquid dish washing detergent (LDWD), apply vitamin E, and call back with questions.

On May 13, 2013 an APSS assistant called the owner to update the case. The owner stated that he bathed the dog on an unspecified date and time and that the dog had fully recovered on the morning of May 11, 2013.
