1-35401372 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that her cat was exposed to an insecticidal spot-on product containing the active ingredient methoprene. One day prior to initial contact with the registrant, before the registrant product was used, the reporter indicated that her 4-month old, male domestic shorthaired cat was not feeling well and it was gagging up frothy material and not eating. The reporter stated that she had fed her cat raw chicken tenders prior to the cat developing these gastrointestinal symptoms. The pet owner then applied the registrant product to her sick cat that evening. The following morning the cat was found dead. The reporter was advised that the active ingredient in the product has little to no toxicity in mammals. The reporter then indicated that there were a lot of dead rats in her area and that her cat may have ingested some dead rats along with some rat poison. The reporter was further advised that there are numerous possible causes for the described symptoms and without pre-mortem diagnostics or a post-mortem necropsy the cause for death cannot be determined. No further information is available.
