On July 3, 2013 and continuing weekly until July 16, 2013 the owner inappropriately applied an unknown amount of the product to the 2 under labelled kittens to treat a pre-existing flea infestation; she sprayed some of the product on a cotton ball and rubbed it into the kittens' fur and also sprayed the kittens directly with a small amount of the product.

On an unknown date after applying the product to the 2 kittens the owner noticed that they were symptomatic. The owner observed that both cats died on July 19, 2013. On July 20, 2013 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that if the kittens were saturated with the product, the alcohol could lead to depression and ataxia. The APSS veterinarian also stated that anemia could make the kittens more sensitive to the alcohol in the product. A necropsy was not available.

The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was considered to have a doubtful likelihood of causing the clinical situation. Kittens were less than labelled age and severely anemic and had not received any veterinary care or de-worming.
