On 25-Jul-2013, a 17 year old, spayed, female, Domestic Shorthair feline, in unknown condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, was administered 1 tube of Advantage II Small Cat (Imidacloprid-Pyriproxyfen) once topically by the owner.

On 28Jul2013, three days following the application of product, the cat was found deceased. The caller contacted Bayer Animal Health to inquire about using the remainder of the product on their new pet and not to report this event. No necropsy was performed. No more information is expected and the case is closed.

The information regarding the death of the cat was casually provided during an inquiry. The level of information is low as no weight was reported. Death occured 3 days after last product exposure. Nevertheless death is inconsistent with pharmaco-toxicological product profile and experience. Product has wide margin of safety. Oral LD50 in rat 642 mg/kg BW. 24-fold overdosage tolerated by cats without showing any side effect. No signs of allergy or anaphylaxis reported. No reaction on previous exposure. The cause of death of this geriatric cat is unknown according to case description but probable related to underlying cause of age. Finally, a product relation can be excluded.
