On an unknown date in 2013, an 18 year old, 7 pound, neutered, male, Unknown Breed feline, in poor condition, with concomitant medical conditions of hypertension and proteinuria, was administered 1 tube of Advantage II Small Cat (Imidacloprid- Pyriproxyfen) once topically by the owner.

On approximately 04Aug2013 the cat died. No necropsy was performed. The owner initially contacted Bayer Animal Health to seek advise on how to control an active flea infestation and not to report the death of this pet.

Report lacks important information as application date was not given and therefore time to onset and chronology unknown. Death is not expected after product application, as inconsistent with pharmaco-toxicological product profile. Product has wide margin of safety. Oral LD50 in rat 642 mg / kg BW. 24-fold overdosage tolerated by cats without showing any side effect. No signs of allergy or anaphylaxis reported. No reaction on previous exposure. Other causes as old age or underlying disease due to hypertension and proteinuria according to case description more likely. Therefore a product relation is considered unlikely.
