Limited information was provided in the incoming e-mail and attempts to obtain further specific details have been unsuccessful to date. On approximately 13-May-2010, a Feline of unknown signalment, in unknown condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, was administered 1 tube of Advantage (catunspecified) (Imidacloprid) once topically by the owner.

On an unknown date after application the cat passed away. It isunknown if a necropsy was performed. The owner initially contacted Bayer Animal Health to inquire about an expiration date for the product, not to report the death of this pet. No further information is expected.

The information regarding the death of the cat was casually provided during an inquiry. Reporting of occurrence more than 3 years after product application, thus occurrence of fatal outcome probably not within close time of product application. Death occured on an unknown time after last product exposure. Nevertheless death is not expected as inconsistent with pharmaco-toxicological product profile and experience. Product has wide margin of safety. Oral LD50 in rat 642 mg/kg BW. 24-fold overdosage tolerated by cats without showing any side effect. The cause of death of this cat is not reported according to case description. Although death is not expected, due to missing information on details cat, presentation and time to onset, a reliable causality assessment is not possible.
