(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
1-34615281 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that her cat was exposed to an insecticidal product containing the active ingredient methoprene. The reporter indicated that she applied the product to her 3-year-old, 6 pound cat in the afternoon three days prior to initial contact with the registrant. The caller also applied a non-registrant spot on insecticide (Advantage) to her dog at the same time. That night the cat started vomiting, was hiding and acting out of it. The following day the cat did not eat or drink and was then taken to the veterinarian where it was bathed with dawn dish soap and then referred to an emergency clinic for hospitalization. At the emergency clinic blood work showed low potassium and phosphorus levels. The cat was hospitalized on intravenous fluids. Later that same night the veterinarian called the owner at home and indicated that the cat had died. The reporter was advised that the registrant product has little to no toxicity in mammals and the described symptoms are not consistent with exposure to the product. A necropsy to help determine the cause for the cats death was recommended but was declined. No further information is available.
