(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On an unknown date in 2010, a 16 year old, neutered, male, Maine Coon Cat feline, of unknown weight, in good condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, was administered an unknown volume of Advantage (unspecified) (Imidacloprid) once topically by the owner. On an unknown date in 2010 the cat was diagnosed with thyroid issues by the vet. Product continued to be applied on unknown dates from 2010- 2012. It is unknown if the cat had product applied in 2013. In April 2013 the cat passed away at home. No necropsy was performed. The owner called to inquiry about product and ingestion, not to report this incident.
Death
The information regarding the death of the cat was casually provided during an inquiry. The level of information is very low (weight, application date, time to onset is missing). Nevertheless hyperthyroidism and death are inconsistent with pharmaco-toxicological product profile and experience. Product has wide margin of safety. Oral LD50 in rat 642 mg/kg BW. 24-fold overdosage tolerated by cats without showing any side effect. The cause of death of this geriatric cat is unknown according to case description, but death due progression in medical condition is possible. Product was used on animal before without causing any signs. Finally, a product relation can be completely excluded.
