On an unspecified date in 2000, a 2 year old, 15 pound, spayed, female, Domestic Shorthair feline, in unknown condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, was administered 1 tube of Advantage (cat-unspecified) (Imidacloprid) once topically by the owner. Approximately 12 hours after application the cat was lethargic. The cat was not examined by a veterinarian and recovered 2 days later. On an unspecified date in 2013, at the age of 15 years old, the cat died for unspecified reasons. A necropsy was not performed.

The level of information is very low. Previous exposure showed lethargy which could be expected, however interval between death and last exposure is more then 10 years. Nevertheless death is inconsistent with pharmacotoxicological product profile and experience. Product has wide margin of safety. Oral LD50 in rat 642 mg/kg BW. 24- fold overdosage tolerated by cats without showing any side effect. The cause of death of this geriatric cat is unknown according to case description. Finally, a product relation can be completely excluded.
