(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
1-32525684 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that her cats were exposed to an insecticidal product containing the active ingredient methoprene. The reporter indicated that she applied the product to her 2-year-old, female, 5 pound cat (Subform III #1) and to her 8 year old, 16 pound female cat (Subform III #2) 16 days prior to initial contact with the registrant. Twenty minutes after product application the 2-year-old cat was blind, the cat stopped eating and at the time of initial contact was dehydrated and ataxic. Caller is currently at the veterinary clinic seeking treatment for this cat. The reporter indicates that her 8-year-old cat became lethargic and anorexic and passed away eight days prior to initial contact with the registrant. The reporter indicates that she is not sure if the product was the cause of her 8-year-old cats symptoms. The reporter indicates that she applied this product to these two cats previously and they did not have any symptoms. The reporter also indicates that she applied the product to her other cats at the same time and none of her other cats had any symptoms. The reporter was advised that the described symptoms are not consistent with product exposure. The active ingredient is an insect growth regulator with very little to no toxicity in mammals. Decontamination by bathing was recommended and the reporter was encouraged to work with her veterinarian to determine an underlying cause and appropriate treatment for her cats on-going symptoms. No further information is available.
