On September 18, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat was coughing, so she rinsed the cat's coat and skin with a wet cloth. On September 19, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat had alopecia and an odor, so she rinsed the cat's coat and skin with a wet cloth again. On the evening of September 20, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat was vocalizing, lethargic, and abasic. A short time later, the owner's son and mother took the cat to the veterinarian, where he was euthanized. On September 24, 2012 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian also stated that signs starting a week after the exposure to the product would not be expected.

On September 21, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat had lost weight. On September 23, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat had additional symptoms. On September 24, 2012 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian also stated that signs starting a week after the exposure to the product would not be expected. The APSS veterinarian recommended that the owner take the cat to the veterinarian and have the veterinarian call for information.
