On July 8, 2012 the owner noticed that the dog was symptomatic. On July 9, 2012 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that dogs tolerate pyrethroids well and that no life-threatening signs would be expected. The APSS veterinarian also stated that pyrethroids can cause a "pins and needles" sensation or hyperesthesia.The APSS technician recommended that the owner bathe the dog with liquid dish washing detergent (LDWD) and rinse well, apply a cold compress, apply vitamin E twice daily for 1 to 2 days, consult with a veterinarian about alternative flea and tick products, and call back with questions or if signs continued.
